The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets girls basketball team took a big step towards winning their fifth conference title in the last seven seasons last week by defeating conference opponents De Soto and Seneca.

Coach Ben McCullick’s squad traveled to De Soto on Tuesday, Jan. 23 to take on the Pirates and the visiting Hornets left with a 78-38 victory.

Three nights later, the Hornets welcomed Seneca to town and the Hornets built off a 52-7 halftime lead to earn a 71-14 victory and move to 9-0 in the Ridge and Valley Conference and 14-1 overall on the season.

The Hornets stepped out of conference Monday, Jan. 29 when they traveled to Belmont but return to conference play on Thursday, Feb. 1 when they host La Farge/Youth Initiative before hosting River Ridge in a non-conference game on Friday night.
