Clayton County Republicans preferred  Donald Trump by a wide margin at caucuses held on a sub-zero evening on Monday, Jan. 15.

The former president captured 428 votes, representing 63.8% of the total county votes. County-wide, there were 671 Republicans who caucused at sites throughout the county.

Other candidates with voter support in the county were: Ron DeSantis 125 votes (18.6%); Nikki Haley 51 (7.6%), Vivek Ramaswamy 51 (7.6%); Ryan Binkley 15 (2.2%) and Asa Hutchinson 1 (.1%).

Clayton County voters followed the statewide trend that saw Trump secure a record-setting landslide win. The Iowa caucuses kicked off the U.S. primary season, leading up to the national convention in July in Milwaukee.

Iowa Democrats have changed their caucus procedures and are taking mail-in votes from now until March 5.
