The Seneca Royals girls basketball team traveled to Viroqua on Tuesday, Jan. 16 looking for their first victory of the season. The hosts lead the Royals 22-20 at halftime, before Seneca came out in the second half and took a 27-25 lead with 13:00 left in the game.
The Blackhawks quickly retook the lead at 29-27 before pushing it to 43-33 with 5:34 left in the game. The Royals tried to rally with an 11-7 run late in the game, but ran out of time.
Seneca returned home on Friday, Jan. 16 to host the Juda Panthers in a non-conference replacement game for the Weston Silver Eagles, who canceled their varsity team before the season began due to low numbers.
A back-and-forth first half saw the Royals use a 11-4 run to turn an early one-point deficit into a 20-14 halftime lead.
The visitors from the Six Rivers East conference used a rally of their own to start the second half and make the score 25-24 with 10:16 left in the game before Seneca used a 22-8 run in the final 9:58 of the game to earn a 47-32 victory.
Leading the way for Seneca in the scoring totals was Aylah Baker with 15 points. Also contributing to the finally tally were Dhyllan Kemp (10 points), Kylie Chambers (6 points), Nadia Klema and Camryn Lenzendorf (5 points each), and Emma Manning and Rita Sime (3 points each).
The Royals improve to 1-12 with the victory, while Juda drops to 0-15 with the loss.
Following a home game with Kickapoo on Tuesday night, the Royals travel to Wauzeka on Friday, Jan. 26 to take the conference leading Hornets at 7:15 p.m.
