The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team looked to continue their strong play when they hosted the Decorah Vikings in the first game of a boy-girl doubleheader at Prairie du Chien High School on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The Vikings had other plans however, as they took a 32-28 lead into halftime on the Prairie girls. The visitors from Iowa extended their lead as they pushed the score to 45-38 with 11:41 remaining in the game. The Hawks then used a quick 9-0 run to take the lead at 47-45 before a Viking three-point basket gave the lead again at 48-47. That would be their last lead of the game however as the Hawks would close out the game by outscoring Decorah 11 to 5 to earn the 58-53 victory.

The Hawks got a balanced scoring attack from  Tessa Czajkowski Higgins (16  points), Tannah Radloff (15 points), and Karly Kramer (12 points), as Greenlee Krahn (7 points), Rita Achenbach (6 points), and Claire Kennedy (2 points) rounded out the scoring. Achenbach also added a team high 8 rebound and 5 assists during the game.

Next up for the Hawks on Thursday, Jan. 18 was a trip to Platteville to take on the conference leaders. The Hawks came in one game back of Platteville in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference race thanks to the Lady Hillman snapping the Hawks 30-game conference winning streak with a 63-52 victory in Prairie on Dec. 1.

In a flip from the first game in December, this one was all Hawks as they jumped out to a 37-22 lead at halftime before extending it in the second half for a 59-40 victory. The Hawks scoring attack got 17 points from Radloff, 16 points from Krahn,  9 points from Czajkowski Higgins, 7 points from Kramer, 6 from Achenbach, 3 from Camryn Knapp, and 1 from Kennedy.  Kramer also grabbed 7 rebounds, while Radloff added 6 assists to lead the way.

With the win the Hawks improve to 4-1 in the SWC and move into a three-way tie for first place with Dodgeville and Platteville.

Next up for the Blackhawks is a trip to Richland Center on Friday, Jan. 26 and then to Barneveld on Saturday, Jan. 27 as part of a non-conference doubleheader with the boys team. Game time for the girls on Saturday afternoon is scheduled for 1:30 p.m, with the boys game directly preceding it.
