Playing their first game in ten days, the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets boys basketball team returned to the court to host conference contender Ithaca on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The visiting Bulldogs took a 31-28 lead over the Hornets into halftime. The Hornets made the score 33-31 with 16:50 left in the game, but could not get any closer as Ithaca went on a 40-22 run the rest of the game as they closed out the Hornets 73-53.

Leading the Hornets in scoring was Cooper Lomas with 17 points, while Lucius Cooley added 15 points. Theodore Millin (9 points), Cohen Redman (6 points), Alex Manning (4 points), and Jonah Klema (2 points) rounded out the Hornets scoring totals.

Wauzeka-Steuben welcomed the Weston Silver Eagles to town as the visitors from Cazenovia came in looking for their first conference victory of the season. The Silver Eagle jumped out to a 28-22 lead at halftime.

The Hornets woke up at halftime however, and proceeded to go on a 17-0 run to take a 39-28 lead on the Silver Eagles with 10:57 left in the game. Weston responded with a rally of their own as they went on a 13-2 run to tie the game 41-41 with 5:05 left in regulation. The Hornets would have just enough of an offensive advantage to hold off Weston and claim the 50-43 victory.

Wauzeka-Steuben improved their overall record to 5-7 and their Ridge & Valley Conference record to 4-2 with the win, while Weston dropped to 4-10 overall, and 0-7 in the Ridge & Valley Conference with the loss.

Next up for the Hornets following a non-conference home game with Potosi on Monday night is a conference contest with Seneca on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:15 p.m.
