The Seneca Royals boys basketball team opened up 2024 with two non-conference games.
First up for the Royals was a home contest with the River Ridge Timberwolves. It was all Timberwolves in the first half as the visitors took a 51-31 lead into halftime. However, the Royals came out in the second half and managed to cut the deficit to single digits but ran out of time as River Ridge prevailed with a 84-75 victory. Briar Wall led the way the Royals in scoring with 25 points, including going 5-for-11 from the three-point line. Dawson Davidson (16 points) and Jackson Konichek (12 points) also scored in double figures for the Royals. Rounding out the scoring for Seneca was Gage Wall (7 points), Reggie George, Hunter Hagensick, and Owen Oppriecht (4 points each), and Garret Baker (3 points).
The Royals traveled to Boscobel two days to take on the Bulldogs. A low-scoring first half saw the host Bulldogs lead the Royals 21-19 at intermission. Boscobel’s offense found its groove in the second half as they held off Seneca for a 56-45 victory. Davidson led the Royals scoring attack with 15 points, while B. Wall and Oppriecht each added 10 points. Hagensick (4 points), George, and G. Wall (3 points each) also contributed to the Royals scoring total. With the two losses, Seneca’s overall record now stands at 4-6.
