The Prairie du Chien wrestling team faced off with the Darlington/Black Hawk Warbirds in a non-conference dual on Thursday, Jan. 11 and came away with a 48-28 victory.
The Hawks jumped out to a 12-0 lead after pins by Hunter Reid and Porter Kossman in the 106 and 113 pound weight class matches before Darlington/Black Hawk picked up two victories from Eli and Ethan Aird.
Eli Aird defeated Brady Baumgartner at 120 pounds but was not able to earn bonus points as Baumgartner kept the match to a 5-1 score before Ethan Aird won by pin at 126 pounds to make the score 12-9 in favor of PdC. The Hawks earned victories by pin in three of the next four matches (Drake Ingham, Mason Baumgartner, and Drew Hird) with the one loss coming by technical fall to Warbird state runner-up Owen Seffrood.
A battle between state ranked wrestlers Breylin Goebel and Bryce Lenzendorf at 157 pounds led to Goebel picking up a 10-2 major decision victory in match that was much closer than what the final score shows. The score of the dual now stood at 30-18 in favor of Prairie du Chien with five matches remaining.
The Hawks’ Jeremiah Avery picked up a fall in 1:30 over the Warbirds’ Riley Mosely at 165 pounds, before Darlington/Black Hawk got a pin and a major decision in back-to-back matches to make the score 36-28 with 2 matches to go.
A forfeit win to the Hawks’ Blake Thiry at 215 pounds sealed the dual win for the Hawks before Jack Simmons pinned the Warbirds’ Gage Ruf in 1:04 to make the final score 48-28.
Prairie Wrestling improves to 19-4 overall with the win. Next up for the Hawks is a home dual for Senior/Hall of Fame Night against Mineral Point on Thursday, Jan. 18 before traveling to Fort Atkinson on Saturday, Jan. 20 for the Terry Kramer Open.
