Florence Virginia Becwar June 22, 1929-December 16, 2023
Florence Virginia Becwar, 94, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, Dec.16, 2023 at Bluff Haven Assisted Living in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. In peaceful sleep, she entered heaven with family members and caregivers present and praying for her safe passage.
Florence was born June 22, 1929 to Ed and Martha (Wagner) Wachter in the family’s farm home near Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
On June 4, 1951, Florence was united in marriage with Fred Becwar at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Together, the couple raised their eight children. Florence was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She valued family above all else and worked to instill those family values in her children. Florence loved working in the kitchen, was a great cook, but an even more prolific baker. Family, friends, relatives, and neighbors were always eager recipients of her delicious breads, pies, cookies, and other assorted desserts. After the children were grown, Florence enjoyed the opportunity to spend more time with Fred and to be around children in her role as a cook at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School. She loved interacting with the kids and they loved her . . . and her cooking! She was a devout Catholic, an active member of St Gabriel’s Church, and a dedicated volunteer for church functions.
Surviving Florence are her children, Luanne (Brian) Alme of Monona, Wisconsin, Nancy (Ed) Wengren of Burlington, Wisconsin, Debra Becwar of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, John Becwar of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Jane (Scott) Hipke of Evansville, Wisconsin, Michael Becwar of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Joseph Becwar of Southampton, New York; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, John Wachter of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Becwar; son, Thomas Becwar; her parents, Ed and Martha Wachter; and her one sister, Evelyn Picha.
The Becwar family would like to thank Bluff Haven Assisted Living administrator, Dana Cota, and her wonderful staff for all of the care and love they showed to our mother and our family the past four years during her stay there, but especially in the past few weeks when we all needed it the most. In addition, we are also extremely grateful to all of the staff of Crossing Rivers Hospice. The heartfelt support of her social worker, caregiver and all of the nurses that cared for and comforted mom and our family in the past few months and in her final days was immeasurable. Thank you so much. We love you all.
