Central boys have 1-2 week heading into winter break

The Central boys basketball team had a three game schedule last week, going 1-2 before heading home for the holidays. 

 

In a Dec. 18 game versus Edgewood-Colesburg, the Warriors started off slow, falling behind 10-4 after the first quarter, but quickly regained and headed into halftime leading 18-16. It was a hard fought game after, with both teams going shot for shot. The Warriors were able to gut out the victory in the end by the score of 53-50. 

 

Jake Hertrampf scored 20 points, with three rebounds, three blocks and two steals, and Owen Hammersland added 11 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Loan put up 10 points, nine rebounds, six steals and three assists. Carson Ruegnitz scored seven points and had three rebounds and two assists. 

 

Central shot 37 percent from the floor and hit five of 16 three-pointers, while the defense collected 14 steals, forced 21 turnovers and had five blocks.

 

The second game of the week had the Warriors on the road against Turkey Valley on Dec. 19. Central had an 8-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Trojans took over in the second period, pulling ahead 21-16 by halftime. They out-scored the Warriors 23-3 in the third quarter, eventually winning 59-27. 

 

Loan led Central with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Hertrampf and Hammersland each scored four points and combined for eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Ruegnitz and Caden Fette each scored two points. 

 

In the final game of the week on Dec. 22, the Warriors lost to North Fayette Valley 59-10. Individual game stats were not available at press time.

 

The Warriors will return to the court after break for a road game against 6-3 MFL MarMac on Friday, Jan. 5.
