Dale Irvin Natwick February 9, 1949-December 1, 2023
Dale Irvin Natwick, 74 of Prairie du Chien, WI, died of health complications after suffering a stroke on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at his home.
He was born Feb. 9, 1949, to Orris and Elaine (David) Natwick. He grew up on the family farm near Rising Sun, WI, and attended the one room school there for eight years.
In 1967 he graduated from Seneca High School. Because of his 6’7’ frame, he helped the boys basketball team win consecutive championships his junior and senior years in the Kickapoo Valley Conference. He spent several years working on the family farm until it was sold to his Uncle Alven Natwick.
Dale married Carla Jane Halverson on April 19, 1975 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was employed at various places in Prairie until he found his niche at 3M where he worked for over 30 years.
Dale and Carla were blessed with three children, Jeremy, Darlene and Terri. Sadly, Carla was killed in an accident in 1986 while the kids were still quite young. His mother Elaine took over the job of raising her grandchildren.
Dale was an avid gardener who loved planting potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Canning sauerkraut was always a fall activity so the family could have its favorite meal of pork roast, potato dumplings, and sauerkraut.
Sometime in the 1990’s Dale was able to buy 120 acres of the Natwick farm from his uncle. He spent many hours gardening there and allowing his many friends do their deer and turkey hunting there. During these years he made many trips to Las Vegas, Duluth, and other parts of the state with old school friends.
Dale put many miles on his pickup trucks transporting his kids and grandkids to activities and appointments of all kinds. He never complained because he loved them all so much.
In his retirement he became a regular coffee guy at Bob’s Bar and a breakfast guy at Hungry House where he and his friends solved world problems or lamented the quality of Viking football. This was another of his great pleasures and hated to miss those times together with them.
Dale will be greatly missed by his children, Jeremy (Melissa) Natwick, Darlene Natwick, and Terri Natwick; his grandchildren, Ian Haldorson, Chelsey Natwick, Logan and Julian Lillian Shedivy; his brother, David and sister, Carol (Tom) Holbrook; his sister-in-law, Diane Copper; and other aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carla; his parents, Orris and Elaine Natwick; his brother-in-law, David Copper; his brother-in-law, Danny Halverson and his wife Lorraine Halverson; grandparents and other relatives.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, WI.
A luncheon will follow.
