MFL MarMac wrestlers pick up dual wins, place third at tournament

The MFL MarMac boys wrestling team kicked off its season last week, securing a pair of dual wins and placing third in the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament.
The Bulldogs faced Beckman Catholic and Edgewood-Colesburg in a Dec. 5 dual meet, earning respective 78-6 and 60-15 victories.
The win over Beckman Catholic included falls for Holden Mathis (144 pounds), Tristen Koehn (157) and Quinn McGeough (175). MFL MarMac’s other wins came via forfeit. Beckman scored its lone points on a Bulldog forfeit at 150 pounds.
Mathis and Koehn each improved to 2-0 with falls in the dual versus Ed-Co. Keith Anderson (126) and Gavin Kishman (132) also pinned their opponents.
McGeough, Wolfgang Martins Saboria (106), Caleb Zuercher (175), Dayne Kohrs (190), Nolan Lerch (215) and Will Howes (285)won by forfeit.
Gunnar Ross lost a 3-0 decision at 113 pounds, and Rylan Schroeder was pinned at 120, giving the Vikings nine points. Ed-Co picked up six more on a Bulldog forfeit at 144. Neither team had a wrestler at 150.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the week Dec. 9, with a third place finish at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament. Their 136 points trailed only Nashua-Plainfield’s 249.5 and Ballard’s 231.5.
MFL MarMac was boosted by individual titles for Mathis at 138 pounds and Koehn at 157. A trio of wrestlers—Ross (113), McGeough (165) and Howes (285)—placed third.
Schroeder took fourth at 120 pounds and Kohrs at 190, while Kishman wrestled his way to fifth at 132 pounds. Placing sixth in their respective weight class were Anderson (126), Zuercher (175) and Lerch (215).
The Bulldogs host Lancaster, Wis., in a Dec. 12 dual, then will head to River Ridge, Wis., for a Dec. 14 dual meet and the Regina Invitational on Dec. 16.
