Resource Center leadership committee announced
By Caroline Rosacker
The following is the first of a six-part series devoted to the Community Resource Center Campaign.
The Guttenberg Economic & Industrial Development Committee (GEIDC) and the Family Resource Center have received a generous $2.7M state grant to begin preparations for a new building, to be located south of the municipal building, focused on the services found at the Family Resource Center.
GEIDC is a local nonprofit that promotes the economic and industrial development of Guttenberg and the surrounding area. GEIDC owns and manages the property where the new facility will be constructed. See: Community Resource Center Flow Chart on page 2 for clarification.
Capital Campaign Leadership team
A fundraising campaign is underway, led by Co-Chairs Carolyn Hoffmann, Pastor Harold McMillin, and Kathy Lansing. “We are pleased with our fundraising efforts thus far, and have donations and intentions totaling $142,000, which is a strong indication the community and surrounding area supports the project,” said Co-chair Kathy Lansing. Other Leadership Committee members are Diane and Myron Thiese, Sue Meyer, Kari Harbaugh, Diane Schilling, Gloria Britten, Dr. Andy and M.J. Smith, Lisa Manson, Julie Rastetter, Kay Vifian, Forest and Tina Brown, Dale and Mary Barnes, Tracy Kregel, and social media and news media representatives Julie Palmer and Caroline Rosacker respectively.
How can you help?
The Community Resource Center accepts in-kind donations of labor and materials; a legacy gift in the name of someone you would like to remember or honor; cash gifts of all amounts; and gifts of livestock, grain, timber, appreciated assets such as stocks or bonds, or required minimum distributions are appreciated.
Growing demand, limited space
As a service hub for northeast Iowa residents, numerous agencies utilize space at the Family Resource Center on a rotating basis for Medicare counseling, supervised family visits, mental health support and much more. The overcrowded building also houses a food pantry, clothing closet, baby essentials, kitchen basics, hygiene products, household items and furniture.
With growing demand at the Family Resource Center for space and meeting clients needs, a new facility that would meet current and future needs, community needs, and provide opportunities for expansion is at the heart of the building campaign.
Building usage
The new construction will have three levels: a basement utilized as a community space for meetings, trainings, and family gatherings; ground floor space for the Family Resource Center and Food Pantry; and a second floor that will serve as storage space with the option for future expansion to meet identified community needs.
The project is set to break ground this fall with Phase One expected to be complete by October 2024.
