The MFL MarMac boys and girls cross country runners continued to shave time off their results in the Oct. 3 South Winn Invitational—the final competition before the Upper Iowa Conference meet.

Junior Jacob Schellhorn turned in a season best time of 17:03, putting him third behind only Decorah’s Grant Zilka and Waukon’s Wyatt Gulla, who had respective times of 16:31 and 16:35.

Also securing season bests were Tucker Ruff, who crossed the finish line 34th in 19:17, and Malachi Ames, who completed the race in 19:39 to place 40th. Logan Ross and Wolfgang Martins-Sabrina rounded out the Bulldog boys results in 113th and 127th place.

With 178 points, MFL MarMac placed seventh of 10 teams. Waukon easily took the team title with a score of 30.

The Bulldog girls relied on some of their own season best times to place fourth overall. Their 121 points trailed South Winneshiek with 47, Decorah 49 and Waukon 84.

Cora Keehner added another medal to her season haul by placing 10th with a 21:10. It was her best time of the year. Skylar Fisk also turned in a season best 22:11 for 22nd place, and Evelyn Ruff was 39th after recording a 23:24. Brooke Donlon was next in 44th, followed by Samantha Ruff in 50th, Clare Grau 54th and Emma Koether 70th. Kaylee Nuehring crossed the finish line 91st, Mariah Moser 96th and Emma Driscoll 101st.

The Upper Iowa Conference Meet will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Silver Springs Golf Club in Ossian. It's a day earler than planned due to impending weather.
