Mississippi Meats sponsors Howl-O-Ween Coloring Contest
As the leaves fall and the wind starts biting, the season of ghouls and goblins inches closer, their fingers slipping through the cracks in the floorboards and their eyes glowing from the shadowed corners of the room. It’s the witching season; a time for costumed mischief and, more importantly, a time for treats. When the calendar turns to October, the haunted houses, corn mazes and hiking trails open to scare the public out of their wits.
This year, Mississippi Meats has joined in the Halloween festivities by sponsoring a Howl-O-Ween Coloring Contest in the Courier Press. Chris Herbst, owner of Mississippi Meats, said backing events and activities for kids was an important part of community involvement. “We always try to get behind kids events, big or small… whatever we can do. Whether that’s buying tickets or making a contribution.”
Here’s how the contest works: a full-page picture will appear in the Oct. 4 Courier Press. Kids who want to enter the contest can cut the picture out, color it and turn it into Mississippi Meats. The pictures will be posted on the windows of the business for the duration of the contest. On Oct. 19, the contest will end and winners will be drawn on Oct. 20. One winner will be chosen from each of three age groups: 6 and under, 7-10 and 11 and up. Each winner will get their names in the Oct. 25 edition of the Courier Press and a prize from Mississippi Meats.
Mississippi Meats, located at 700 E. Blackhawk Ave. #30 in Prairie du Chien, WI, will welcome young artists and Halloween fanatics to help make the storefront a spooky spectacle.
Herbst’s shop will celebrate its seventh anniversary in January, and he expressed his gratitude for the town that has hosted them. “The Prairie du Chien community has accepted us, and giving back is how we keep going.”
