The MFL MarMac boys and girls cross country teams turned in more strong finishes in meets hosted by Starmont and Central last week.

The Sept. 12 Starmont Invitational included runners from over 20 teams across classes 1A to 4A. Despite the stiff competition, Bulldog junior Jacob Schellhorn placed 11th overall in the varsity race with a time of 17:35.53. Teammate Tucker Ruff was next up in 73rd place, and Logan Ross crossed the line 133rd.

Cora Keehner led the MFL MarMac girls contingent, finishing 38th in 22:17.87. Brooke Donlon took the 51st spot, while Skylar Fisk was 65th, Evelyn Ruff 98th, Clare Grau 102nd and Emma Koether 109th.

In Elkader on Sept. 14, the lady Bulldogs raced their way to second place as a team, their score of 50 trailing only the 28 put up by South Winneshiek. Charles City was the next closest finisher at 80.

The MFL MarMac effort included a trio of top 10s from Keehner (sixth), Donlon (eighth) and Fisk (10th). Three more Bulldogs finished within the top 20, as Ruff, Koether and Grau were a respective 16th, 17th and 18th. Mariah Moser claimed the 37th spot, Emma Driscoll was 39th and Kaylee Nuehring placed 43rd.

Success continued in the boys race, as Schellhorn earned second place on a time of 17:11.9. Nick Williams of Charles City won the meet in 16:47.9. Ruff cruised to 19th and Logan Ross was 57th. Newcomer Wolfgang Martins-Sabrina placed 63rd.

With fewer than five runners, the boys were unable to post a team score.

Next up for the cross country teams is a meet at Waukon on Sept. 19.
