Central cross country faces stiff competition at Bob Scott Invitational

After a heat wave canceled one meet, the Central cross country team was able to find a replacement, competing in the Bob Scott Invitational at North Fayette Valley on Sept. 7.
In the boys 5K, the Warriors were led to the finish line by medalist Gavin Holst, who ran a season best 18:40.1 to finish 14th. The next top finisher was Michael White in 54th, running a course personal record of 20:44.8. Henry Reimer followed in 62nd, Carson Ruegnitz in 65th with a season best time of 21:16.5 and Vaughn Zittergruen 69th with a personal record and season best of 21:29.8, while Caden Fette crossed the line in 74th. The remaining Warrior runners were Carter Kruger in 86th, Declan Finley in 88th, Jesse Polkinghorn in 92nd and Bryce Heller in 121st.
As a team, the Warriors finished 11th with a score of 255, but were the top school among Class 1A programs.
On the girls side, the Warriors’ top runner was medalist Jaydin Dettman with a 10th place finish and course record time of 21:18.5. The next highest finisher was Coral Rork in 82nd, followed by Ashlyn Scherf in 95th, Aspen Rork in 103rd, Layla Embretson in 107th, Hannah Friedlein in 132nd, Madylen Gregerson in 137th and Audrey Palas in 166th.
All the girls either ran a course personal record or a season best. As a team, they finished 12th with a score of 319, which put them in second place among 1A schools.
The team will compete next in the only home meet of the season, at the Elkader Golf & Country Club, on Thursday, Sept. 14, starting at 4 p.m.
