Despite a 0-0 halftime score, the Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben Blue-Golds were unable to pickup their first win of the 2023 season as the Highland Cardinals scored three second half touchdowns to earn the Ridge & Valley Conference win on Thursday, Aug. 31 at the Wauzeka Baseball Field.
After a scoreless first half that saw Seneca-Wauzeka unable to capitalize on two interceptions of two Highland passes, the Blue-Golds forced and recovered a Cardinal fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half. Once again, the Blue-Golds couldn’t take advantage of the turnover, and Highland was able to finally get into the endzone as they took a 7-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
Despite another interception by the Blue-Golds defense, the Cardinals scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the 21-0 win.
The Blue-Golds will travel to Ithaca on Friday, Sept. 8.
