The MFL MarMac volleyball team kicked off its season Aug. 22, losing in straight sets to host Cascade.

The Cougars took the opening frame 25-14, before putting the Bulldogs away 25-16 and 25-15 in the next two.

Cascade racked up 29 kills, versus 10 for MFL MarMac. Bulldog seniors Ella Corlett and Hannah Bogdonovich had three kills apiece, Maddie Keehner two and Lauryn Johnson and Avery Lamborn one.

Mallory Lang led the team with five assists and Makayla Morrissey contributed three.

The Bulldogs compiled 27 digs, nearly half of which came from Bogdonovich and Kaitlin Picha, who each had seven. Johnson tallied four digs and a trio of players—Lamborn, Corlett and Autumn Shaw—all had two.

Corlett earned a team-high two blocks, and Keehner picked up one.

Another disparity between the two squads was at the service line, where Cascade completed 80.8 percent of attempts, including 21 aces. The Bulldogs’ serve efficiency came in at 74.2 percent, with only nine aces.

Of Morrissey’s four completions, three were aces. Lang was a perfect 5-5 with two aces and Corlett zinged two aces on a 4-5 night.

The Bulldogs competed in a varsity triangular at Turkey Valley on Aug. 28, and will have another triangular, this time at Maquoketa Valley, on Sept. 5. Their first home game won’t be until Sept. 12, against Central.
