The Clayton Ridge-Central baseball team had a shortened week of baseball due to a weather cancellation, but played a doubleheader at Turkey Valley May 30, as they looked to get closer to the .500 mark on the season.

The War Eagles were down by a run after the second inning of game one, before tying the score 2-2 in the top of the third. However, disaster struck for the War Eagles in the bottom of the third, as the Trojans put up seven runs and went on to win 10-3.

The War Eagle bats had six hits, including five singles and one double. Kahne Bolsinger went 2-3 at the plate, with a single, double and RBI, and Elliot Kelly was 1-3 with a single and RBI. Owen Ludovissy tallied a hit and a hit by pitch, and Ashton Thiese was 1-3 with a single. CR-C also stole four bases, with Ludovissy leading the way with two.

Defensively, the War Eagles threw a Trojan out stealing and committed zero errors for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

On the mound, Thiese went for two and one-third innings, holding the Trojans to two hits, six walks and seven earned runs. Colton Hoeger pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, keeping the Trojan bats to one earned run while striking out six.

In game two, the War Eagles fell down 1-0 after the first inning, but later took the lead, heading into the sixth up 3-2. The Trojans picked up three runs in the bottom of the frame and a late rally by the War Eagles came up short, as they took a close 5-4 loss.

The War Eagle offense put up six hits, including three singles and three doubles. Players also took three walks and three hit by pitches. Leading the way at the plate was Ludovissy, who went 2-3 with two singles, an RBI and a sacrifice fly, and Caden Helle, who went 1-3 with a double and RBI. Kylar Millard doubled and walked and scored two runs, while Thiese and Max Nuehring each had a hit and scored a run. The offense stole three bases, with one apiece from Millard, Helle and Kurt Ross.

Helle was on the mound for five innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, while striking out 10 Trojans.

The 3-6 War Eagles have a slew of games this week, starting with a home doubleheader versus Kee June 5. They welcomed Wapsie Valley June 6, before heading to Sumner-Fred June 7. The team returns home for a June 8 match-up with North Fayette Valley, before heading to Waterloo Bucks Stadium to face Bondurant-Farrar June 9.
