Gerald R. Stevens, 85, of Steuben, passed away into eternal rest on June 3, 2023 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.

Jerry was born on July 7, 1937 in Prairie du Chien to John and Harriet (Koresh) Stevens.

Jerry “Jess” Stevens was co-captain and all-conference on his Prairie du Chien High School football team. His athletic ability didn’t stop with football as he was an all-around star in track and field as well due to his speed and agility.

Also affectionately known as “Jerry from Prairie” he was a very caring soul who worked hard at various roles throughout his adult life. He lived in Neenah during a portion of his adulthood before moving back to Prairie du Chien, and ultimately landed in Steuben. Jerry was a Christian man and loved his family.  When he was able, he visited his sister in Jefferson and the two of them also made their way to Texas to visit their brother Rick and his family. He always had a kind word and a smile for anyone he met.

Jerry was an avid sports fan who enjoyed many sports and, in true Wisconsin fashion, had a special love for the Green and Gold.

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Shirley Kostroski, Marilyn Palas and Diane Mezera; his sisters-in-law, Kate Malin and Donna Etzel; his brothers-in-law, Dennis Regal and Jim Mezera; three children; a very special friend, Sally Swanson, and her family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; his brothers, Rick and Jack Stevens; his sisters, Betty Regal and Rita Kirschbaum; his brothers-in-law, Ron Kirschbaum, LeRoy Palas and Norman Kostroski; his sister-in-law Sally Stevens; two nephews, Ted and Todd Stevens; and many other family and friends.

A private family service will be held soon. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please consider making a donation to Crossing Rivers Health Hospice of Prairie du Chien or Holy Family Parish of Prairie du Chien in honor and memory of Jerry.

His family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Prairie Maison and the caregivers from Crossing Rivers Health Hospice for the exceptional care Jerry received. And the utmost appreciation for Jacob Gibson of Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home in Jefferson for his dedication and support to the family during this difficult time.
