The track and field week got off to a solid start for the Central boys, who, in a meet at MFL MarMac, scored 54 points and put up 11 top-five finishes in 14 events, including one victory.

The positive results came from multiple events, including the field events, where Ryan Schroeder put up a third-place throw in the shot put with a distance of 36-01.50 feet. Jacob Cook went for 31-11.50 to finish ninth. In the discus, the Warriors had two more top 10s, as Carson Ruegnitz hit a mark of 105-08 feet for fourth place and Braden Taylor finished eighth with a throw of 85-06.

In the sprint races, the Warriors bypassed the 100, but sent out Braxton Bormann and Taylor in the 200-meter dash, where Bormann finished 14th and Taylor 17th. In the 400, Henry Reimer put together a time of 1:05.38 to finish sixth place. Right behind him in seventh was Carter Krugger, who hit the line in 1:05.66.

The distance races remained a source of success for the Warriors, owed to the accomplishments of Gavin Holst, Krugger and Reimer. In the 800-meter run, Holst was the clear winner, taking first with a dominant time of 2:06.81, almost 15 seconds faster than second place. Krugger ran the 800 in 2:38.86 to finish fourth. Reimer took part in the 1600, crossing the finish line in sixth, while, in the 3200, Michael White finished fourth and Declan Finley came in sixth.

The hurdles are another area where the Warriors put up points, including the 400-meter event, where Kyle Reinhart finished fifth in 1:10.63, seven seconds behind first place.

In the distance medley relay, it was Collin Jaster, Tate Berns, Elliot Kelly and Vaughn Zittergruen who put together a third-place run. The Warriors added a fourth-place effort in the shuttle hurdle relay with Preston Kulper, Ruegnitz, Bormann and Reinhart, and were also fourth in the 800 sprint medley with Cook, Jaster, Berns and Kelly.

The 4x100 was a similar result, where Cook, Jaster, Kelly and Berns finished fourth in 51.56, about five seconds out of first place.

The 4x200 team, which consisted of Reinhart, Kulper, Bormann and Schroeder, finished sixth, as did the 4x400 squad of Kulper, White, Finley and Schroeder.

The Warriors’ next event was the Upper Iowa conference meet at Clayton Ridge on May 4, where they finished seventh with 47 points and put together 21 top 10s across 19 events.

The one area where the Warriors were not at their best was the sprint races, which produced just one point. Cook finished ninth in the 100 in 13.20 seconds, while the 200 had Berns cross the line in eighth and Reinhart 11th. In the 400-meter dash, Krugger finished 11th and Reimer 12th.

In the distance races, only Holst cracked the top five, which he did with a third-place time of 2:11.62 in the 800. He added a fourth-place finish in the 1600, finishing the race in 5:01.08. Zittergruen was seventh in the 800, while Krugger was 11th in the 1600.

The 3200 had White leading the Warriors with a sixth-place finish in 12:29, and Finley took 10th.

The hurdle races added some points, starting with Kelly’s seventh-place time of 19.09 seconds in the 110-meter event. Jaster was eighth in the 400 hurdles and Isaac Loan ninth.

The Warriors were well represented in the relays, starting with the shuttle hurdle relay with Kulper, Ruegnitz, Bormann and Reinhart, who put together a fifth-place run of 1:23.96. Jaster, Cook, Berns and Kelly finished the sprint medley relay in eighth place, and Jaster, Berns, Kelly and Zittergruen combined for seventh in the distance medley.

In the other relays, the Warriors finished seventh in the 4x100, with Cook, Schroeder, Kelly and Berns running a 49.80, less than five seconds out of first place.

Reinhart, Bormann, Loan and Schroeder placed sixth in the 4x200, while Reimer, Krugger, Reinhart and Bryce Heller earned seventh in the 4x400. The 4x800 was a fifth-place time for Reimer, Heller, Krugger, and Zittergruen.

The field events produced nine points for the Warriors, with Ruegnitz taking seventh in the discus with a final throw of 105-01 feet and Schroeder coming in eighth in the shot put with a distance of 37-09.50. Jaster hitting the mark of 17-07.75 feet in the long jump, which put him seventh, and Loan was fifth in the high jump, clearing 5-04.

The Warriors will look to capitalize on recent improvements at the district meet on May 11 at Edgewood-Colesburg, as they attempt to qualify for state.
