The Central boys started the track and field week at the Oelwein Huskies Co-Ed Invitational, competing in 13 events and compiling seven top-10 finishes.

Of those 13 events, three were field events. In the discus, Carson Ruegnitz finished 12th, while Braden Taylor placed 26th. Ruegnitz also competed in the shot put, this time finishing 19th, followed by Max Fettkether in 23rd. The Warriors achieved a top-five finish in the long jump from Collin Jaster, who landed at the 17-06.50 mark. Teammate Carter Krugger was 21st.

The distance races included a seventh-place finish in the 3200 from Vaughn Zittergruen, while Henry Reimer was close behind in eighth and Krugger rounded out the top 10.

That trio also participated in the 800, as Zittergruen led the way in 17th, Krugger in 18th and Reimer in 19th. In the 1600, Michael White and Declan Finley finished a respective 18th and 21st.

In the two sprint races Central competed in, Jaster was 14th in the 100-meter dash and Taylor was 35th. White claimed 24th and Finley 30th in the 400.

The Warriors fared a little better in the hurdles, as Elliot Kelly placed 10th in the 110-meter event, while Jaster ran a 1:07.17 in the 400 hurdles, which was good for seventh. Kyle Reinhart was 12th.

The Warriors competed in three relays, including the 4x100, where they finished 16th with the team of Jacob Cook, Fettkether, Ruegnitz and Ryan Schroeder. The 4x200 squad of Reinhart, Cook, Preston Kulper and Braxton Bormann finished 12th. The top relay finish was in the 4x110-meter shuttle hurdle event, where Preston Kulper, Ruegnitz, Bormann and Kelly took eighth.

The Waukon Indian Relays later last week were another story for the Warriors, as they put up better results against a smaller field. Overall, the Warriors finished the meet with 42 points and a fifth place finish.

In the high jump, Isaac Loan cleared 5-04 feet and finished in fourth place, while Jaster leapt into fourth in the long jump with a mark of 17-09. Loan landed at 15-01.50.

Schroeder and Ruegnitz headlined the throwing events, with Schroeder finishing sixth in the shot put and seventh in the discus, while Ruegnitz was eighth in the shot put and ninth in the discus.

The sprint races were just as positive for the Warriors, starting with the 100-meter dash, where Cook raced to sixth with a time of 13.05, less than two seconds out of first. Loan ran the 100 in 13.83 seconds and finished ninth.

The 200 had Tate Berns running a 26.98, which put him into sixth place. The 400-meter dash had two Central athletes, Reinhart and Bryce Heller, who came in a respective eighth and ninth.

The distance races were another high spot for the team, notably the 800-meter run, where Gavin Holst finished second and Zittergruen sixth. Holst also finished sixth in the 1600, while White crossed the line fifth in the 3200, followed by Finley in sixth.

In the hurdles, Kelly produced a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter event, and Jaster locked down fifth in the 400.

But perhaps the best results for the Warriors were in some of the relays, starting with the distance medley, as Jaster, Berns, Kelly and Holst finished the race in second place. The Warriors also had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x800. Jaster, Loan, Berns and Kelly turned in a time of 52.06 seconds in the 4x100, while the 4x800 squad of Heller, Reimer, Krugger and Zittergruen ran a 10:43.86.

Central traveled to the Clayton Ridge April 25 then will have another meet on April 28, at West Delaware.
