Kathryn A. Kurt, age 72 of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, April 7, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Worthington, IA on March 2, 1951, the daughter of Vernon and Marion (Schemmel) Gudenkauf. She grew up in Worthington and went on to graduate from Beckman Catholic High School in Dyersville, IA with the class of 1969. She then furthered her education at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, IA where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing. Kathryn married John Kurt on November 28, 1975, and together they moved to Prairie du Chien where they would raise their three children. She worked for Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien for many years until retirement in 2013. She enjoyed golfing as a member of the Prairie du Chien Country Club. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, baking, and hosting her friends at the family home. Kathy was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badger basketball and football teams. She was also an active member of the Women’s Civic Club and St. Gabriel’s Parish. Above all, she loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Nicholas Kurt, Kelly (Michael) Keil, and Kerry (David) Lipanot; her 4 sisters Donna (Tom) Fah, Linda (Randy) Robertson, Joanne (Mike) Grunsted, and Lori (Steve) Boeckenstedt; her grandchildren Layla and Lucas Keil and Henry, Matthew, and Lena Lipanot; her stepmother Madonna Gudenkauf, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marion, and her infant twin sisters Connie and Bonnie Gudenkauf.
A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with private inurnment at a later date. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and also at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. www.garrityfuneralhome.com.
A Celebration of Life Happy Hour will be at The Barn Restaurant from 3 pm - 7 pm. The family invites friends and family to join them in a toast to Kathy and hors d’oeuvres in the bar area.
