This coming week-end the Prairie du Chien Fine Arts Department will be presenting a play entitled:

“LETTERS TO SALA“

by Arlene Hutton, originally conceived by Lawrence Sacharow and based on the book “Sala’s Gift” by Ann Kirschner

The play is based on the true account of Sala Garncarz, a young Jewish girl who offered to take her sister’s place at a Nazi Labor camp 1940. In a five year period during World War II she was held in seven different labor camps. At great risk Sala managed to save over 350 letters and cards that she received while in the camps along with her personal diary. She desperately wanted to keep the letters as her way of connection with the outside world and with her family and friends. Sala managed to keep the letters a secret for over 50 years. Only when she revealed the collection to her daughter, Ann, did her remarkable story come to light. This is an inspiring and important story of hope and resilience.

A display chronicling Sala’s life and information on the Labor Camps is set up in the Lobby of the Performing Arts Center.

Performances are: Thursday, Friday, Saturday

April 13, 14 & 15th at 7:30 pm

And Saturday, April 15th at 1 pm.

Tickets will be sold at the door.
