Michael A. Froehlich, age 75, of Marquette, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was born in Wesley on March 27, 1947, the son of Carl and Wilma (Siepmann) Froehlich. Michael served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked as a mechanic before becoming a police officer in Emmetsburg. He then served as the chief of police in Monona, before becoming the deputy sheriff in Clayton County in 1990. He held that position for 25 years until retirement in 2015. 

 

Michael married Deidre Vick (née Pederson) in 1996 at Pikes Peak State Park in McGregor. Together, they lived in Marquette for many years. Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed building different things as a mechanic and racing sprint cars. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deidre Vick-Froehlich; his children Jon (Evie Normandin) Froehlich and Steve Kennal; Deidre’s children Colin (Katie Evers) Vick and Amanda Vick; his siblings Leonard (Jeanne) Froehlich and Marilyn Cockerell; his grandchildren Micheal Froehlich, Eva, Taylor Jane and Hanna Vick, Keyton Evers, Chloe Hubanks, Dominic Graap and Dalanie Graap; and his great-granddaughter Haylee Froehlich. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

 

A memorial service was held on Michael’s birthday, March 27, at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Friends called at the funeral home until the time of service. www.garrityfuneralhome.com
