Jan. 31 marked the final dual meet of the season for the Central boys wrestling team. The Warriors finished the meet 1-3 in duals, but 8-4 in matches, as they continued to be victimized by forfeits.
This was encapsulated in a couple of the duals, including versus Hudson, which the Warriors lost 70-12. Central went 2-1 in matches, with wins by Braxton Bormann (120 pounds) and Nick Deitchler (126) via fall, only losing on the back of 11 forfeits.
It was a similar story versus Wahlert, Dubuque, in which the Warriors went 2-2 with wins by Bormann and Preston Kulper (132), both via fall. The dual was lost 58-12 due, in large part, to eight forfeits. Deitchler lost a 13-4 majority decision, while Jacob Cook (182) lost by a quick fall.
The forfeits continued to plague the Warriors in the dual versus Bellevue, as the team went 2-1 in matches, with falls from Deitchler and Kulper, but five forfeits handed Bellevue a 36-18 win.
Central’s lone dual win came against Springville, in which the team went 2-0 with falls secured by Deitchler and Kulper. Despite giving up more forfeits, Central took the 24-17 win.
“The final home meet went pretty well. The kids wrestled really tough and are looking good going into districts. Kulper wrestled very well, going 3-1, and Bormann went 4-0 and is continuing to help lead this team. Deitchler has been a steady senior and wrestled very well, going 3-1. We beat Springville for a final dual win of the season, going 8-21 in duals,” said coach Joe Koehn. “The kids are sharpening their tools for districts and will be ready to roll. I, as a coach, am very excited. We have a great opportunity and will be seizing it.”
The Warriors will wrestle at districts on Feb. 11, at MFL MarMac High School.
