Susan Elaine Zimmerman, age 68, of Prairie du Chien, Wisc., formerly of Clarksville, Iowa passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from her battle with brain cancer. Susan was born on May 15, 1954 to Erwin Lawrence Sherburne and Vera Mae Burkhardt. Susan was the oldest of 5 siblings.
Susan went on to get her associates degree in radial technology however ended up working for a few construction and asphalt companies as a business manager. She met her husband, Michael Ray Zimmerman on April 4, 1974 and they were married a few short months later on September 7, 1974.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Zimmerman; her children, Holly (Dana) Miller, Ryan (Carmen) Zimmerman, and Brooke (Jason) Wooldrik; her grandchildren, Leana Zimmerman, Kenna Miller, Ray Wooldrik, and Ryder Wooldrik and her mother, Vera Hoins.
She is preceded in death by her father, Erwin Sherburne; her brother, Rodney (Buck) Sherburne; her brother, Jeff Sherburne, and her niece, Amber Jacobs.
Susan had a love for life and lived it to the fullest. During her brain cancer journey, her mantra “one day at a time” flooded through her family, friends, and social media. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Susan has chosen to donate her body to Mayo Clinics in Rochester for research. Her wishes are to have a celebration of life sometime this spring and for any memorial donations to go to Crossing Rivers Health Hospice in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin where they currently reside.
Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin is helping the family with the arrangements.
