Individual accomplishments highlight week for Central wrestling
By Willis Patenaude, Times-Register
The Central wrestlers competed in two events last week, one a late dual addition in Edgewood-Colesburg, where they battled Monticello and Maquoketa Valley. The Warriors wrapped up the week at the Upper Iowa Conference Tournament in Tripoli.
The meet at Ed-Co did not produce any dual victories, as Central lost both. However, there was a major individual accomplishment, as 126-pound senior Nick Deitchler earned his 100th and 101st career wins on a forfeit and a fall.
As a team, Central went 1-2 in matches while giving up four forfeits, and lost the first dual 36-30. Collin Jaster picked up a 46-second pin at 113 pounds, while Sam Fettkether took a fall at 160 and Jonah Burns was pinned at 106.
In the second dual, Central finished 2-5 in matches while giving up seven forfeits, losing 72-12. Deitchler got one of the wins via fall, while Braxton Bormann, competing at 120 pounds, took down his opponent in under three minutes for a win via pin. Jaster, Fettkether, Jacob Cook (182) and Burns all lost by fall.
At the Jan. 26 UIC Tournament, Central placed seventh as a team and Bormann was the individual conference champion at 120 pounds.
Bormann received a bye into the quarterfinals, finished his semifinal match in less than three minutes with a fall and took the first place medal with a 6-4 decision over Jaxson Lundgren from North Fayette Valley.
Deitchler finished the tournament second at 126 pounds, going 2-1 with two falls. He was pinned in the championship match.
Central also had four fifth place finishers in Jaster, Burns, Cook and Preston Kulper. Fettkether did not place.
The team had one remaining meet before districts in February, at home on Jan. 31.
