Wins over North Fayette Valley and West Central last week improved the MFL MarMac boys basketball team to 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the Upper Iowa Conference.

The Bulldogs bested NFV 68-51 in their Jan. 24 match-up. A 46 percent shooting night, paired with six shots from behind the arc, aided the winning effort.

Zach Driscoll’s 17 points led all scorers. He shot 8-10 from the field and made one three-pointer. He also contributed six assists, five steals and five rebounds.

Wyatt Powell dropped 11 points to go with a team-high seven assists. His stat line included five rebounds, three steals and a block as well.

Carver Blietz-Bentien and Brock Hackett each contributed 10 points. Blietz-Bentien topped the rebound column with nine and had two assists and a steal, while Hackett netted three rebounds and two steals. Hunter Meyer finished the night with eight points and seven rebounds.

The score was even more disparate Jan. 27, in what was a 90-42 win for the Bulldogs.

MFL MarMac upped its field goal percentage to 50 in this game, and hit a whopping 10 three-pointers.

In comparison, the Blue Devils shot 34.1 percent and made only four three-pointers.

The rebounding advantage also went to MFL MarMac, 43-25, and the Bulldogs grabbed 21 steals from West Central, who committed 30 turnovers overall.

Blietz-Bentien’s 20 points led the charge. The junior finished off the double-double with 10 rebounds and also had two assists and two steals.

Parker Kuehl picked up 16 points, five steals, four rebounds and three assists, followed by Driscoll with 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Hackett scored all nine of his points from long range, while Powell, Meyer and Kade McElwaine each contributed seven. Powell also dished out a season high 13 assists.

Three games are on MFL MarMac’s schedule this week: at Clayton Ridge on Jan. 31, a home match-up with NFV Feb. 2, then a road game at South Winn Feb. 3.
