Linford Donald Kinyon, 95, of Colesburg, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury.

Funeral service were Monday, Jan. 16, at the Colesburg United Methodist Church in Colesburg, conducted by Pastor Roger White. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment with Military Rites was at Zion Cemetery, Colesburg.

Casketbearers were Adrian Johnson, Kristen Arthur, Kyle Kinyon, Conner Kinyon, Scott Arthur, Art Johnson, Hank Sangster and David Lohman. Honorary bearers were Joshua Lohman, Christopher Lohman and Jacob Lohman.

Linford was born on Oct. 28, 1927, near Millville, the son of Randall and Nettie (Torrey) Kinyon. Linford received his education at Millville Country School, Guttenberg School, and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1945. He enlisted into the United States Navy and served honorably for two years. After his discharge, Linford attended Iowa State College.

On April 24, 1950, Linford was united in marriage to Marilyn Peck in Manchester. Six children were born to this union. The couple farmed together for many years in the Colesburg area.

Linford was a longtime member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and was a leader of the Methodist Men’s Group. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Colesburg American Legion. Linford also drove a school bus for 10 years while farming. Linford served on the Delaware County ASCS Committee, Delaware County FHA Board, and was a 4-H leader for many years. After retiring from farming, he worked as an adjuster for New Vienna Mutual Insurance. 

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marilyn Kinyon of Edgewood; five children, Jacqueline (Arthur) Johnson of Edgewood, Judith (David) Lohman of Ramona, Calif., Joy (Ann) Kinyon of Heyburn, Idaho, Jana (Hank Sangster) Kinyon of Peosta, and Jeffrey (Vicki) Kinyon of Martinsville, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Judy Kinyon of Montrose, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Adrian Johnson, Kristen (Scott) Arthur, Joshua Lohman, Christopher (Kyrin) Lohman, Jacob (Danielle) Lohman, Kyle Kinyon, and Conner Kinyon; five great-grandchildren, Dayce, Sienna, and Mila Arthur, and Red and Jason Lohman; two step grandchildren, Cody (Kelly) Butler and Ryan (Julia) Butler; one step great-grandson, Kaison Butler; two sisters-in-law, Jean Zittergruen of Edgewood and Sandra (Marvin) Rossow of Manchester.

Linford was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Kinyon in 2005; two grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Lohman; and brother-in-law, Richard Zittergruen.
