Kathy Koether

By Audrey Posten, Times-Register

Long-time MFL MarMac elementary school principal Kathy Koether is retiring after this school year.

Koether, who notified the school board of her intention at a Jan. 10 special meeting, has served 50 years in education, including 39 years at MFL MarMac.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the students, staff and community for nearly 40 years,” said Koether in a letter. “My journey in the field of education has been gratifying and I have witnessed many changes. I have observed former students become parents and have happily enrolled their children in our elementary programs. I have been honored to educate generations of students.”

Koether said education has been a rewarding career for her as both a teacher and administrator.

“After 50 years in the profession, I will continue to be proactive in the field of education and advocate for all to have equal opportunities for learning and succeeding in school,” she stated. “The MFL MarMac School can be proud of the excellent education offered to students. The staff extends student support, compassion and commitment. I will truly miss working with such a dedicated staff.”

“Thank you for your support and interest in the educational initiatives and activities that exist at the MFL MarMac Community School,” she concluded.

MFL MarMac School Board President Gina Roys in turn thanked Koether.

“You will be missed,” said Roys. “Thank you for all you’ve done for the district.”

Koether’s departure will be the second major one for MFL MarMac administration at the conclusion of this school year. Superintendent Dale Crozier last fall announced his intention to retire. Four candidates are currently being considered for his position.

Other resignations accepted

The board accepted two other resignations at the special meeting: Hayley Muse as elementary paraprofessional and Josie Roulson as basketball cheer coach.
