The MFL MarMac girls basketball team last week rebounded from a loss to state-ranked Decorah with an Upper Iowa Conference victory over Kee.

The Vikings, ranked sixth in Class 4A, out-paced the Bulldogs 57-25 in a Jan. 9 game in Monona. MFL MarMac shot just 26.7 percent from the field, scoring 10 points or fewer in each quarter, including only three points in the first and four in the fourth.

Decorah, meanwhile, hit nearly 40 percent of field goals and sank nine shots from behind the arc. The Vikings also capitalized on 23 Bulldog turnovers while committing just eight of their own.

Hannah Bogdonovich contributed eight points—six of which came from three-point shots—along with four rebounds and an assist. Grace Anderson matched her eight points and added three rebounds and MFL MarMac’s lone block. Kaitlin Picha’s stat line included three points, two assists and a steal.

MFL MarMac got back into the win column the following night, with a commanding 63-41 advantage over visiting Kee.

The Bulldogs upped their field goal percentage to 36.9, pouring on the points in the second and third quarters after trailing the Hawks 11-7 in the opening period.

Bogdonovich’s 15 points led the way, followed by Autumn Shaw with 13. Anderson totaled nine points, Ashley Shaw seven and Picha six. Twins Brooklynn and Caydence Moon each netted five points.

Ashley Shaw and Bogdonovich tied for a team-leading four assists, and Picha, Caydence Moon and Madelyn Keehner each picked up two.

The defense aided the effort with 12 steals, including three apiece by Ashley Shaw and Caydence Moon. Kee had 26 turnovers in total. Brooklynn Moon was responsible for the team’s only block.

The Bulldogs slightly out-rebounded the Hawks, 39-37, topped by nine from Autumn Shaw. Ashley Shaw compiled six, while Bogdonovich, Anderson and the Moon sisters each had four.

MFL MarMac now sits at 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the Upper Iowa Conference. Next up is Postville on Jan. 17, then Turkey Valley on Jan. 20.
