Marquette Council agrees to lease city’s roundhouse area to NORAG for winter use

The Marquette City Council, at its Dec. 13 regular meeting, approved a lease with NORAG for temporary use of the city’s roundhouse area, pending railroad approval.
The NORAG LLC grain elevator near McGregor last month requested use of the area in order to load and ship soybeans by rail for several months this winter.
The lease agreement is for three months, at an amount of $5,000. Per council request, the area cannot be used past April 1.
Council member Dave Schneider stressed the agreement is on a one-year trial basis.
That would still allow the city to develop the roundhouse area down the road, if it chooses to, added council member Tracy Melver.
“When, or if, we figure out what we want to do with that property, we don’t have to do this again,” he said.
