Pape, Ruff come out on top in Central Scramble
By Audrey Posten, Times-Register
MFL MarMac wrestlers Kadence Pape and Audrey Ruff placed first in the Central Scramble on Nov. 28. The event included 19 schools and 150 female wrestlers from around the area.
Pape won the 125-pound division with falls over Kaydn Meyer of South Winneshiek and Riley Rouse of Independence. This marked the senior’s second meet or tournament victory this season.
Ruff reached the top spot in 155 F after pinning West Delaware’s Kloee Chrystal in her first match, then edging Postville’s Kimberly Perez 7-4 in the second.
Mackenzie Bachman took second at 145. After winning her first two matches by fall, the sophomore was pinned by Ali Russler of New Hampton/Turkey Valley in her final match of the night.
The three other Bulldog participants—Amelya Weigand, Melody Grimm and Danica Friedlein—all placed third at their respective weights.
Weigand lost by fall in the opening match at 115 B, before securing a forfeit in round two. Morgan Krall of Independence pinned her in their round three bout.
Grimm went 0-2 in the 130 bracket after suffering two falls, while Friedlein rebounded from two early pins to defeat Postville’s Jeidy Castillo Hernandez in the round three match at 155.
The Bulldogs will wrestle in two tournaments this week, at Waverly-Shell Rock on Dec. 6 and the South Winn Girls Wrestling Tournament at Luther College on Dec. 9.
