The MFL MarMac boys wrestling team is off to an 8-0 start in duals, after sweeping all three duals in a quadrangular at Starmont and winning the Cascade Dual Tournament.
At Starmont on Dec. 1, the Bulldogs scored 72-6 and 66-7 wins against North Crawford/Seneca and DeSoto before taking down the host team 60-24.
Just four MFL MarMac wrestlers faced opponents against the small NC/S squad. That included falls for Bryce Radloff (138 pounds), Karter Decker (152) and Will Howes (285). 106-pound freshman Wyatt Mohs was pinned.
Keith Anderson (113), Jarett Hanson (126), Clayton Freese (132), Holden Mathis (138), Quinn McGeough (160), Dayne Kohrs (170), Austin Schaller (182), Nolan Lerch (195) and Taylor Herzmann (220) all won by forfeit.
The Bulldogs also benefitted from forfeits against DeSoto, winning five matches that way. Mathis, Decker, Schaller, Lerch, Herzmann and Howes all pinned their opponents to add to the point total. Hanson lost a 7-0 decision and Kohrs was on the wrong end of a 12-4 major decision.
Radloff, Herzmann and Mathis earned their second falls of the night in the dual against Starmont. McGeough and Hanson also came away with falls, while Kohrs, Schaller, Lerch, Howes and Mohs won due to forfeit. Decker suffered a rare pin, this time at 145 pounds, and Anderson lost by fall at 113.
MFL MarMac won the Dec. 2 Cascade Dual Tournament Championship after going a perfect 5-0 in duals that night.
That included a 78-0 score over the JV All-Stars that featured falls by McGeough, Kohrs, Schaller, Herzmann, Radloff and Decker.
A 54-30 victory over Cascade came in round two. Six Bulldogs also earned pins in this dual—Schaller, Howes, Anderson, Mathis, Radloff and McGeough—while Lerch, Mohs and Decker picked up wins by forfeit. Kohrs, Herzmann and Hanson were all pinned by their opponents.
The Bulldogs faced Starmont in round three, improving their score from the night before to 66-18. Falls came from Herzmann, Anderson, Hanson, Mathis, Radloff and McGeough, and another five wins came by forfeit. Decker continued to be troubled by Star Keaton Moeller, who pinned him for the second time in two days.
Match four in the championship bracket was a 60-20 victory over Wahlert Dubuque. Decker got back in the win column with a fall, while Radloff and McGeough earned their fourth of the tournament, Schaller his third and Lerch his first. Herzmann, Howes, Mohs, Anderson and Hanson picked up wins by forfeit. Mathis lost by tiebreaker, 7-3.
MFL MarMac won the championship match 48-30 against Washington. Radloff capped off the night with another fall, to go a perfect 5-0 in the tournament and 8-0 this season. Decker, Mathis and Anderson pinned their opponents too. Winning by forfeit were Herzmann, Howes, Kohrs and Schaller.
Washington was able to pick up wins at 126, 160 and 195 with respective falls over Hanson, McGeough and Lerch. Mohs lost his 106-pound match by medical forfeit, the Bulldogs did not send anyone out at 120 and neither team wrestled at 152.
This week, the Bulldogs hosted a triangular with Beckman Catholic and Edgewood-Colesburg on Dec. 6. They’ll also compete at the Nashua-Plainfield Tournament on Dec. 10.
