MFL MarMac wrestlers Mackenzie Bachman and Kadence Pape placed first in their groups at the Nov. 22 Cascade Girls Invitational.

Bachman went 3-0 with three falls to claim first place in Group G. Two pins took less than 30 seconds, while Bachman’s second round match went over four minutes before she vanquished her opponent. The sophomore has topped her bracket in both events the lady Bulldogs have competed in this season.

Pape, a senior, followed up a second-place finish a week ago with first place in Group C. Like Bachman, she won all three matches by fall, two of which came in under a minute.

Sophomore Audrey Ruff took second in Group I, after twice pinning Epworth West Dubuque’s Kiya Steger.

Junior Amelya Weigand and freshman Danica Friedlein both finished third in their respective brackets. Weigand lost her opening match in Group B but bounced back with a fall over Cascade’s Ava Lawler in round two. Friedlein had similar results in Group H, losing by fall in the opening round but pinning her opponent, Ella Lucas-Madsen of Cascade, in the second.

Freshman Melody Grimm rounded out MFL MarMac’s results with fourth place in Group D. She went 0-3 that night.

The Bulldogs placed third as a team with a score of 44, trailing only Epworth West Dubuque with 75 and Midland with 49.

MFL MarMac wrestlers were back in action Nov. 28, at the Central Scramble.
