Four MFL MarMac players are on the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and Iowa Football Coaches Association 2022 all-state football teams. Senior offensive lineman Hunter Meyer and junior linebacker Kade McElwaine were both selected to the Class 1A first team, while junior Wyatt Powell and senior Karter Decker were respectively named to the second team as a running back and returner.

Meyer was the leader of MFL MarMac’s offensive line, a group that paved the way for 4,186 total yards of offense and 56 touchdowns. That included a school record 9.2 yards per play.

McElwaine set a Bulldog single season record with 108.5 total tackles, an amount that was second most in Class 1A. He was tops on the team and fourth in 1A with 70 solo tackles, then first on the team and third in 1A with 21 tackles for a loss. The linebacker capped off his stat line with 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Powell reached 1,154 rushing yards on 107 carries—putting him first on the team and ninth in Class 1A. His 10.8 yards per carry were second most in Class 1A. The junior running back scored 15 touchdowns on the ground and another two through the air, where he had 11 receptions for 251 yards. Paired with five kickoffs for 142 yards, Powell accumulated 1,547 all purpose yards, placing him sixth in that category in Class 1A.

Decker fielded four kickoffs for 115 yards and a touchdown. One 95-yard return was the longest in Class 1A this season. He also tallied eight punt returns for 166 yards and a touchdown, averaging 20.8 yards per attempt.
