Fourth quarter dooms Bulldogs in loss to Central

Central out-scored MFL MarMac 18-3 in the final quarter of the Nov. 22 girls basketball season opener, turning what was initially a close game into a 54-34 runaway victory.
The Warriors led 8-6 through the first quarter and just 16-15 heading into halftime, but turned up their three-point shooting in the second half. The margin increased to 36-31 by the end of the third quarter and into double digits in the fourth.
Central hit a dozen threes in the game, compared to six by the Bulldogs. The team’s overall field goal percentage was 41.3 percent, outpacing the 32.6 percent by MFL MarMac.
Although the Bulldogs out-rebounded Central 28 to 27, they committed 19 turnovers—10 more than the Warriors.
Junior Hannah Bogdonovich led MFL MarMac in the main statistical categories, with seven points, seven rebounds and four assists. Grace Anderson picked up six points and five rebounds, in addition to three of the team’s four blocks. Sisters Brooklynn and Caydence Moon each hit two shots from behind the arc, for six points apiece. Kaitlin Picha finished the night with five points, three rebounds and a team leading three steals, while Ashley Shaw chipped in four points, two rebounds, two steals and a block.
The Bulldogs played their second game of the season Nov. 28, versus Waukon. They’ll head to Kee on Dec. 2.
