Janet C. Matthews, 75 of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. 

She was born Oct. 4, 1947, the daughter of James and Betty (Hager) Slaughter. She grew up in McGregor, Iowa where she later graduated from high school. Janet married Kenneth Matthews on Oct. 21, 1967, in McGregor. She worked at McGregor Loudspeaker before going to work at Advanced Transformer, where she worked for 30 years until retirement. She enjoyed playing softball, gardening, hunting, and fishing. 

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Kenneth; their children Kenneth Jr. (Davina), and Kent Matthews; her siblings Evelyn Brye, Raymond Slaughter, and Tammy Rose; her grandchildren Kenneth III, Kristopher, Kyle, Kolton, and Anthony; great-grandchildren Kiara, Kenneth V, Ava, and Jennifer; and her extended children Harvey Kansaku, Shawn Lachman, Becky Matthews, and Angela Foley. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Marietta Petsche and Jesse Slaughter, a great grandson Kenneth   IV, and her extended child Tammy (Eberly) Kansaku.

A remembrance for Janet will be held on Nov. 6, 2022, at 1 p.m. at her home in the pavilion. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
