Jeanine Eileen Rodas, 91, of Elkader, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Edgewood, to Donald and Clara (Shaw) Rhines. Jeanine graduated from Edgewood High School.

 

She married Marvin F. Rodas on June 26, 1949. Three children were born to the couple. The couple farmed for a time. Jeanine worked at McGregor Electronics, Ben Franklin and Schmidt’s Pharmacy. She retired from Elkader Care Center after 39 years; she started as a CNA and her final years were as a laundry aide.

 

As a little girl and into her adulthood, she enjoyed listening to her dad’s band, Don Rhines and the Nighthawks, play music. Jeanine was a lover for some good ol’ country music, watching Hee-Haw, Little House on the Prairie, Dukes of Hazzard and any good western. She and Marvin loved watching some Iowa basketball. She enjoyed dancing and baking. She was well known for her apple pies and apple pie bars. She enjoyed her time with her grandkids and hearing stories about great-grandkids.  

 

Survivors include her children Jennie (Bud) Levenhagen of Aurora and Patricia (David) Whalen of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Ilo Rhines.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin on Nov. 17, 2014; son, Alvin Rodas; three grandsons, Shane and Eric Rodas and Billy Larkin; and siblings, June Miller, Wanda Ash and Donald Rhines, Jr.

 

Visitation and memorial service were Oct. 1,  at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elkader. Inurnment was at Gooding Cemetery, Wagner Township.
