Martin Edward Sprosty of La Crosse, formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Aug. 30, 2022 at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse.

Martin was born on Nov. 12, 1947 to Charles and Julia (Klema) Sprosty. He grew up on a farm near Seneca and was active in 4H and FFA activities, exhibiting Hereford cattle at the Crawford County and Wisconsin State Fairs. He attended Seneca schools and in Dec. of 1965 was injured in a motor vehicle accident that damaged his spinal cord and left him a quadriplegic. In 1972 he graduated from UW-Platteville and that Nov. ran for Crawford County Treasurer. He was elected and held the office from 1973 until his retirement at the end of 2016. Martin's outstanding memory served him well during his terms in office. Deer hunting from the camouflage Dodge Ram Charger gave him his greatest joy. Martin's health deteriorated after retirement and the simple act of living on a daily basis was a constant struggle that would have been more than most could tolerate. The past three years of kidney dialysis while at the nursing home took its toll, but he could remember events of years past.

Martin is survived by his brothers, John (Marlene) of Fountain Valley, CA, and William of Eastman; his sisters Phyllis Olson of Seneca and Mary Sue (Larry) Booher of Alton, IL; seven nieces and two nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Joseph.
