Eldon G. “Bud” Arms, 79 of Prairie du Chien, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022. 

He was born May 29, 1943, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Louis and Emma (Kalina) Arms. He attended Campion Jesuit High School and later graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and always remained a strong supporter of all who served. He married Virginia Huser on June 14, 1969, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Bud worked at 3M Company in Prairie du Chien for more than 35 years, and later retired from there. He was an avid angler and enjoyed many types of fishing on the Mississippi River, which included commercial fishing in his early years. Bud loved to attend and cheer on his family in their many sporting events and other activities. Some of his other favorite pastimes included gardening, tending to his Koi pond, and spending time with his precious grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia; his children, Angela (Steve) Jones, Andrew Arms, Regina (Brad) Smock, and Elizabeth (Ed) Beckmann; his grandchildren, Colleen, Brendan, Kelsie, Ariel, Tyler, James, Peter and Nora; his great-grandchildren, Lila, Aubrey, Emilia and Hudson; and his cousin, who was more like a brother, Jim (Peggy) Gallagher. In addition, he’s survived by his many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, along with Kristi Hobbs and her family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Nancy Clark, Donald (Roseanne) Kalina, and Lee Arms; and other dear family, Rosie Kalina, George Kalina and Marie Gallagher.

The family asks that memorials be sent to Prairie Catholic Schools or Crossing Rivers Health Foundation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday one hour before the Mass at the Garrity Funeral Home, in Prairie du Chien.
