"Celebrate Guttenberg" this Saturday, Aug. 13

"Celebrate Guttenberg," an annual celebration featuring food, shopping specials and entertainment, is set for this Saturday, Aug. 13, sponsored by the Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce.
This year's event will feature extended hours for the Saturday Farmer's Market, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 400 block of South River Park Drive. There will be a coffee truck on hand at 8 a.m.
An ice cream truck will serve scoops from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the first 200 scoops free, sponsored by Peoples State Bank. Other special food vendors include Holly's Hot Dogs, Jayco Fish and Glazey Daze Donuts.
Youngsters are invited to have some hands-on fun at bubble blowing stations that will be set up in the park.
Local businesses will feature sales throughout the day. See ads in this week's issue from Esser's Clothing and Shoes, Blooming Branches, and Kuempel Hardware.
Live music will be a special feature, with popular entertainer Beau Timmerman playing from from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
A free youth fishing tournament, sponsored by the Guttenberg Motel, will be held that morning at the south marina landing. Registration starts at 7 a.m., with weigh-in and awards at 11 a.m. To register, call Patty at 563-321-1123. T-shirts will be provided.
Street dance
The day will wrap up with a street dance from 7-10 p.m. in the 400 block of South River Park Drive by "Elizabeth Mary Music." The Dubuque native, who now resides in Madison, Wis., will bring her band and a offer a wide variety of music, ranging from top 40 pop and country, Nineties country and pop, along with some original songs.
