 Janice Joan Bahls, age 81, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on April 7, 1941, the daughter of Carter and Hildegard (Clefisch) Smith. She grew up on a farm outside of Garber.

 

Janice attended school in Elkport and later graduated from the Colesburg High School. On April 11, 1964, Janice was united in marriage with Cecil Bahls in Elkport, and three children were born to this union. Janice enjoyed knitting, mushroom hunting, cake decorating, reading, gardening, traveling for vacation and to spend time with her kid’s families, and her work she did for the Visiting Nurses Association. She was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Happy Homemakers and TOPS. 

 

Janice will be forever loved and cherished by her husband of over 58 years, Cecil; three children, Dennis (Marina) Bahls, Douglas (Scarlett) Bahls and Marcy Hong; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three siblings, Burnell (Karen) Smith, Gene Smith and Carla (Tim) Shaffer; and many other relatives and friends.

 

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Carter Hong. 

 

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. Memorial service will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, Rev. Michael Ashman officiating. Inurnment will be at Ceres Cemetery, Guttenberg.
