Two people died in separate Grant County crashes with tractor–trailers on consecutive days last week.

Near Boscobel

A 33-year-old Glen Haven man died in a crash between his car and a semi on U.S. 61 south of Boscobel Wednesday morning.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Nathan Williams was driving north on 61 north of Old 61 Road while Jeremy Cook, 47, Dubuque, was driving a semi with an empty flatbed trailer.

According to the sheriff’s office, Williams car crossed the center line at a curve and the car and semi collided around 7:45 a.m. The semi stopped in the middle of the highway and the car ended up on the west side of the road just off the shoulder.

Williams and his toddler son were taken to Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital. Williams died at the hospital; his son was held for observation. The semi driver was uninjured.

The sheriff’s office said the boy was in “an appropriate child safety seat in the back seat,” but Williams “appeared to have been unrestrained.”

Boscobel Fire, Boscobel and Fennimore EMS and the Grant County Highway Department assisted at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash.

Near Montfort

A 34-year-old Lancaster man died in a crash between a van and a tractor–trailer on U.S. 18 west of Montfort Thursday morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a van driven by Mason Kramer, 20, Prairie du Chien, was going east on 18 near Bethel Road around 11:40 a.m. when it turned south into the path of a semi driven by Timothy Richards, 56, Madison.

Both vehicles ended up in a cornfield on the south side of 18.

Kramer’s passenger, Emannuel Garcia Ortiz, died in the crash. Kramer received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Richards was also treated at the scene.

Fennimore Police, Fire and EMS, Montfort Fire and EMS, the Highway Department and the State Patrol assisted at the scene.

Williams and Garcia Ortiz are the fourth and fifth people to die on Grant County highways this year.
