Joliette’s Trading Company recently celebrated its grand opening in downtown McGregor. The retail store, located at 219 Main St., offers popcorn, essential care products, gifts and more.

Andrea Oppermann, who owns Joliette’s with husband Mark, said they started a co-packing business, making products for other businesses, several years ago.

“We also have our own popcorn company, and I make my own bath products. We wanted a retail space to highlight some of those products,” she shared. “We’ve lived in McGregor for around 13 years, so this seemed like a good fit.”

Although the business grand opening was in May, Joliette’s Trading Company has been operating out of its space since mid-March. According to Oppermann, support has so far been positive.

“We get a lot of repeat customers who love the popcorn and bath products,” she said. “And all the downtown local businesses have been great.”

Joliette’s Trading Company popcorn comes in eight different flavors, and is available in sample or large bags. Oppermann said the family loves popcorn and had been making their own for awhile, before deciding to market it.

“Then, with the co-packing business, we thought it would be a good route to go,” she added.

Oppermann’s Bagley Avenue Essentials bath products are made using essential oils. She started creating items in 2012, sharing them mostly with family and at occasional vendor shows, but ramped up production last winter.

Products help with pain management and anxiety and have other health and wellness benefits.

For example, said Oppermann, “I make a bath soak for pain, and it really works well. Then, I make a pain spray that has the same oils as the soap. People are amazed at how well it works.”

Homemade dog treats are also available at the store along with a few products from local vendors, like jewelry and bath favors.

“Down the road, we’d like to look at adding other local products that correlate with what we do,” Oppermann said.

Joliette’s Trading Company is open Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It does not have a direct entrance from the outside, so shoppers should enter the building’s front doors, go through the salon area and turn left.
