The upcoming movie “Top Gun: Maverick,” starring Tom Cruise, has a Prairie du Chien connection.

Filming for the sequel to the 1980s classic occurred at multiple locations, including two different aircraft carriers, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) with the full support of the U.S. Navy.

LCDR Nathaniel “SOD” Edwards, a 2007 graduate of Prairie du Chien High School, was among the many F/A-18 Super Hornet pilots to help with the film making.

Principle production for the movie took place between 2018-2019 and included U.S. Naval aviators flying aerial photography at times with actors in the aircraft. After a long delay, due to the pandemic, the movie is set to release this Friday, May 27.
