Rosemary Berns, 82, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids of a sudden illness.

Visitation was Friday, May 6, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Interment was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo.

Rosemary was born in the spring of 1939, on the 19 day of June to Lawerence and Emma (Overman) Bonert. She would later go on to marry Aloys Berns, on May 18, 1958. They were united in marriage at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, and to this union six children were born.

After the children were born, she endured the loss of two of her boys, James and Stanley. None of which stopped her from obtaining her high school GED. While raising her babies, mourning the loss of her sons, she was able to go back to school and earn her LPN degree.

Rosemary went on to work for many nursing homes surrounding the Guttenberg area. She also worked for the nuns and cared for them.

As the years went by, she spent many winters with just her and her best friend and companion her dog, Skipper, driving back and forth to Weslaco, Texas. It was said that if anyone tried to stop her from going they would have quite the fight on their hands.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Mary Berns, Richard (Benneva) Berns, Michael (Cherrie) Berns, Marty Berns; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Rachel (Jason) Huber, Jayden, Reagan, Ryan (Morgan) Berns, Lilly, Miles, Jeramiah Berns, Mikailla Pineda, and Sonsaray, Lando; brother, Larry Bonert of Dubuque; plus many other relatives and friends.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Aloys in 2013, two sons, James and Stanley Berns.
