Jeffery 'Scott' DuCharme
Jeffery “Scott” DuCharme, 54, of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 3, 2022 following a courageous battle of cancer.
He was born on May 10, 1967, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Irving “Junior” and Carol (LaBonne) DuCharme. After attending Western Technical College and earning his degree in business marketing, Jeff purchased his dream home, along the river in the same area where he grew up. On June 1, 1996, Jeff was united in marriage with Tammy Lea Dickens in Monona, Iowa. He and Tammy started and raised their family in the beautiful Driftless Area that he admired so much. Prairie du Chien was always considered home, where Jeff worked for over 20 years at Universal Forest Products, before he and Tammy took over the third-generation family business in 2014. If you couldn’t find Jeff with his family, working or surfing Ebay, you’d be sure to find him outdoors, hunting, enjoying wildlife or watching the sunset with a cold beer. Without hesitation, Jeff embodied many roles throughout his life: husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. To his family he was Superman, one who never feared a challenge or the unknown. Jeff was a “glass half full” kind of guy; his admirable attitude proved him to be the sun on a gloomy day. He was selfless, optimistic and resilient; never fearing what the future had to hold. Jeff’s strength persevered when he fought like hell throughout his cancer diagnosis, despite all the ups and downs in treatment. He was quick-witted and fulfilled a sense of humor that made even the most difficult times, a little easier. Jeff was content with his life. He had done the things he wanted to do; he had a beautiful wife, two great kids who he got to watch grow up, and a job that allowed him to work in his favorite place: The Driftless Area. He wasn’t scared of the next chapter in life and was at peace with where he was going and who he was meeting there.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Tammy; his two children, Laura (Logan Coulter) and Clayton; parents, Irving “Junior” and Carol, all of Prairie du Chien; sisters, Cheri (Michael) Gasper of La Crosse, and Sue (Keith) Butler of Stoddard; in-laws, Sue Dickens, Terry (Darcy) Dickens and Tracy (Wade) Hebel; nieces and nephews, Josh (Mikayla) Gasper, Joe Gasper, Julia Gasper, Ciara (Matt) Blake, Tony Dickens, Ronnie (Jenna) Hebel, Kelsey (Noah Koch) Hebel, Kylie Hebel, Melissa Young and Michele (Wes) Merk; as well as several aunts, uncles and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jeff was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Mary LaBonne and paternal grandparents, Irving and Edna DuCharme; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvey and Patricia Dickens; and niece, Samantha Dickens.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Prairie du Chien. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at Huckleberry’s Restaurant and Event Center in Prairie du Chien. A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, at Huckleberry’s, with Pastor Deb Parkison and Bob Brus as the officiants. There will be a luncheon following the service at Huckleberry’s. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family with arrangements.
