The MFL MarMac girls track and field team competed in two meets last week, at Clayton Ridge on April 26 and then a home invitational on April 28.

Senior Abby Schellhorn’s victory in the 1500 meter run highlighted the evening in Guttenberg. Amelya Weigand also turned in a solid sixth place effort in the 400.

Melanie Ruff and Maria Stavroplus earned respective eighth and 13th place finishes in the 100 meter dash, while Weigand ran to 12th in the 200 and Kaylee Walch was 14th.

The Bulldogs placed fifth in three of their four relays. Evelyn Ruff, Walch, Stavroplus and M. Ruff made up the 4x100 squad, and the 4x200 included Ava Lindner, Walch, E. Ruff and M. Ruff. The fifth place 1600 distance medley team featured Lindner, E. Ruff, M. Ruff and Schellhorn. The 800 sprint medley relay finished seventh behind the effort of E. Ruff, Stavroplus, Lindner and Weigand.

In the field events, Stavroplus continued to perform well in the high jump. A height of 4 feet, 4 inches tied her for fourth place. Jordyn Jones threw her way to 13th in the shot put and 11th in the discus. Schellhorn was a close 14th place in the discus.

At the MFL MarMac Girls Invitational, Schellhorn again turned in the Bulldogs’ top finish, after crossing the line fifth in the 1500. M. Ruff took the eighth spot in the 400.

Stavroplus raced to 12th in the 100 meter dash, while Walch and E. Ruff went 17th and 18th in the 200.

The 4x400 was the best relay for MFL MarMac, as Weigand, Walch, Lindner and Schellhorn combined for sixth. The group of Lindner, Walch, Weigand and M. Ruff placed eighth in the 4x200, and Lindner, Stavroplus, M. Ruff and Weigand took 10th in the 800 sprint medley. It was an 11th place time for Lindner, E. Ruff, Stavroplus and M. Ruff in the 4x100.

The Bulldogs will now run at Edgewood-Colesburg on May 2, before competing in the Upper Iowa Conference meet at Postville on May 5.
